Riaan was born and raised in
South Africa and worked as an Economics Researcher, Strategic Planner and Manager of a Parliamentary Research Unit in the South African Parliament before immigrating to the
United States. He was also a staff member on the Constitutional Assembly which finalized the negotiations between Nelson Mandela’s party and the previous governing party of
South Africa. Riaan has lived in
Eugene for eight years and enjoys spending time with his wife, Melissa, as well as reading, writing, and politics. He is currently completing post-graduate studies in Financial Planning through the
American
College in
Pennsylvania. Riaan is the 2007 Chairperson of the Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce
Economic Development Council, and is also a member of the Board of Directors of HIV Alliance.
